Wendy and I are off on yet another adventure…a month on the prairies in February. We are working with the Home Routes folks from Winnipeg performing 11 shows from Edmonton to Fort McMurray to Saskatoon. We’re really looking forward to this time travelling the flats.
On top of the 11 house concerts, Wendy has booked us 20 shows as The Celtic Rathskallions in schools from Calgary to Prince Albert and so many places in between.
Stay tuned for pictures, reviews and maybe a prairie dance and definitely a train!
I wrote a prairie song:
I love to drive across Saskatchewan
the roads and rails just go on and on
I love the yellow of the willow branches
and miles and miles and miles of fenceless ranches
I love the stubble of the harvested grain
and the promise of a welcome rain
I love to see the ducks land in the sloughs
The black mud that cakes your shoes
And we drive and we drive and we drive and we drive and we…
I love the endless Alberta sky
The evening sunsets as it says goodbye
The prairie grasses in the early dawn
A silence that seems to go on and on
River valleys that cut through the land
Friendly folk so glad to offer a hand
The cities you can see from miles away
The horizon that never seems to stray.
nd we drive and we drive and we drive and we drive and we…
Driving west we leave Canadian Shield
The trees and rocks finally yield
To open vistas of a prairie view
From miles away you see Winnipeg
But open roads just seem to beg
To put your foot on the accelerator
We’ll be back a few weeks later
and we drive and we drive and we drive and we drive and we…
